Kevin James Breaux, award-winning author of many horror and fantasy works, including the SOUL BORN Saga, from Dark Quest Books, has three exciting new horror short story releases this month.

From UnEarthed Press, the new Anthology of Ichor III: Gears of Damnation, a massive collection of works at over 560 pages, has Kevin’s Steampunk-horror short story A BATTLE OF EGO. Pitting Thomas Edison versus Nikola Tesla in a war of patents. You never know what these geniuses will invent. Here is a hint… steam-powered zombies! Who will win in this battle to the death?

Newly released by L-L Publications the erotic anthology Too Much Boogie: Erotic Remixes of the Dirty Blues has MOTHER’S MILK, a horror story written on request of the editor. Blending horror and erotica Kevin delivers a story about a blues musician living in a rundown abandoned motel with other hurricane survivors. Blessed with a golden voice the man slowly rises up, but not without a little help from a neighbor. “Mother” has cast a blood-magic spell on him.

Lastly A WAY TO A MAN’S HEART IS THROUGH HIS STOMACH is among the grand opening titles of a new e-publisher called HellFire Publishing. Released as a e-book short story, this is a dark ride through a mysteriously failing marriage. Brenda realizes something is up from various clues, but arrives at a shockingly wrong conclusion. When she finally discovers exactly why things between them are falling apart, she decides that the time has come for her husband Tony to get a taste of what she is going through…just a taste.

Anthology of Ichor II and Too Much Boogie can be found online at Amazon.com and BN.com and other online retailers, while Kevin’s e-book short story much be purchased at the publisher’s site.

In the winter of 2011 the second book in the Soul Born Saga will be released by Dark Quest Books!

The eldest child of an existentialist librarian and a teacher/child-care specialist, Nathan had always tended towards the literary. Lurid ghost stories and big books chock full of pictures from classic horror movies captured his imagination early on, and nothing was ever quite the same again. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, he wanted to be a writer from as far back as the age of 10 This career dream was later replaced by chef, paleontologist, teacher, and any number of things, but he would find himself being drawn back to writing again and again.

Due largely to his love of movies, his first serious writing was screenplays, of which he’s written five over the past several years. He has also written eight novels, including the super-hero novels Chanson Noir and Cobalt City Blues. His short fiction has appeared in such places as Thuglit.com, Byzarium, Crossed Genres, Absent Willow Review, WilyWriters.com, and in the anthology Close Encounters of the Urban Kind by Apex Books. His ghost story “None Left Behind” won the Hauntings competition at the prestigious Hugo House in 2007, and his urban/sci-fi story “Deacon Carter’s Last Dime” has appeared on the long-list for storySouth Notable Stories 2009.

Nathan currently lives in the Bohemian wilds of north Seattle, where micro-brew beer flows like water and everyone wears ironic t-shirts and goatees – even the women. Nathan lives alone with his cat, Shiva, who is currently managing his career in exchange for fresh kibble.

The Horror Writers Association has chosen William F. Nolan, a Pacific Northwest horror writer, to receive their Lifetime Achievement Award this year.

From their press release:

William F. Nolan is a true Renaissance man of literature, having written science fiction (including the immensely popular Logan’s Run series, the first volume of which was co-written with George Clayton Johnson), mysteries, screenplays, and non-fiction, but some of his most outstanding work as an editor and short fiction author has been in the horror genre. His 1984 collection Things Beyond Midnight was first published by Scream Press (and since been reprinted by Babbage Press), and in 2003 Leisure Books published Dark Universe.

As a screenwriter, Nolan co-wrote the legendary television film Trilogy of Terror, a highly-regarded adaptation of The Turn of the Screw (ABC, 1974), and 1976′s Burnt Offerings. In 2002, he was voted a “Living Legend in Dark Fantasy” by the International Horror Guild, and in 2006 he was named Author Emeritus by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. Nolan most recently served as editor on the anthology The Bleeding Edge.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is the most prestigious of the Bram Stoker Awards, given by the HWA in acknowledgment of superior achievement not just in a single work but over an entire career. Past Lifetime Achievement Award winners include such noted authors as Stephen King, Anne Rice, Joyce Carol Oates, Ray Bradbury, F. Paul Wilson, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, and Peter Straub. Winners must have exhibited a profound, positive impact on the fields of horror and dark fantasy, and be at least sixty years of age or have been published for a minimum of thirty-five years.

The LAAs will be presented on March 27, 2010 in conjunction with the World Horror Convention in Brighton, U.K. The convention will take place from March 25-28 at Brighton’s historic Royal Albion Hotel. For more information on the World Horror Convention, please visit their website at www.whc2010.org.

The Horror Writers Association is a worldwide organization promoting dark literature and its creators. Started in 1985, it has over 500 members who are writing professionally in fiction, nonfiction, videogames, films, comics, and other media.

The apocalypse has arrived.

Humanity was decimated by bio-terrorism; three engineered plagues were let loose on the world. Barely anyone has survived.

Just a year before the collapse, Grants Pass, Oregon, USA, was publicly labelled as a place of sanctuary in a whimsical online, “what if” post. Now, it has become one of the last known refuges, and the hope, of mankind.

Would you go to Grants Pass based on the words of someone you’ve never met?

Jennifer Brozek is the creator and co-editor of the Grants Pass anthology (Aug 2009, Morrigan Books). You can purchase a copy at the Morrigan Books website.

“Each story from Grants Pass draws from the same well of emotions and horror as Stephen King’s THE STAND and Robert McCammon’s SWAN SONG. It’ll take you to the darker sides of humanity and yet, at the end of the road, Grants Pass will show you the hope and possibilities of the human spirit.”

– Jason Sizemore, Stoker-nominated editor-in-chief of Apex Book Company and author of Irredeemable.

“This is a unique anthology that deserves attention. You’ll hear echoes of Stephen King’s The Stand, David Brin’s The Postman and even Cormac McCarthy’s The Road as you read this series of stories about the survivors of a great plague. The stories are varied and lively, and their talented authors lead you (sometimes kicking and screaming) toward sanctuary. If you’re reading these words now, dive into these pages, and meet the survivors at Grants Pass.”
— Patrick Swenson, editor of Talebones Magazine.

“Grants Pass is a remarkable, disturbing, and worthwhile read, and one that is likely to stay with the reader for some time to come. I’m predicting that this anthology will be up for a swag of awards come the next round of Aurealis, Ditmar and Australian Shadows nominations.”
– Chuck McKenzie, HorrorScope
