Professional Life
The bulk of my professional playground has involved game writing and narrative design. I started with tabletop games (TTRPG) and moved on to video games in 2001. I have had the honor of working on top-tier and AAA games where I collaborated with and learned from amazing industry leaders.
I’ve worked in the video games industry for over twenty years, first at Xbox, then Microsoft Game Studios, ArenaNet (on Guild Wars 2), and most recently on Remedy Entertainment’s award-winning Game of the Year “CONTROL“.
The games included White Wolf’s World of Darkness, Wizards of the Coast’s Dungeons & Dragons, various Microsoft Xbox games (Viva Pinata, Forza, Conker: Live & Reloaded, etc.), ArenaNet’s Guild Wars 2, and Remedy Entertainment’s CONTROL.
Indie Life

In my spare time, I direct a team of indie game creators. Since 2013, we’ve been slowly building a dark-fantasy puzzle-adventure game called “Danika Dire and the Wretched Wake.” It’s not done yet, but we have a plan.
I’ve led more than 50 freelance artists, writers, and developers. We ran out of funding, so we are only three right now. But we three are dedicated to making it the best game we can.
The Danika Dire project has provided many people the opportunity to work on a game and to learn the game-development ropes. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished.

I also wrote the audio drama scripts for “The Dire Multiverse”—until I caught “Covid Life Interruptus.”
To stay on track, I spearhead a writers’ group called Wily Writers (WilyWriters.net). It offers home-based writers the opportunity to work together, share knowledge, and cross-promote. I drive two co-working sessions every weekday from 9am to 11am Pacific and 1pm to 3pm Pacific. We chat a bit on Zoom then turn off our cameras and work. Members find that having a group to keep you accountable speeds up progress.
